Rolls Royce Phantom

The series of Rolls-Royce Phantom cars have been well known in the luxury cars sector. The Phantom model was introduced after its predecessor, the Silver Ghost. The car that retains traditional features of all Rolls Royce cars comes equipped with different chassis platform, body, and interiors.

This car can be customized according to customer preferences including the final assembly, paint, wood, and leather accessories.

It was sold both in the UK and the US, with the US model being introduced only after a year of its British counterpart.

The car is equipped with a powerful engine just suitable for the large and heavy car. It is also fitted with three units of two large cylinders which have detachable heads. Instead of aluminum, cast iron was used to build cylinder heads of this car in the year 1928. The rear wheels of the car were fitted with cantilever springs when compared to the Semi-elliptical spring suspension in the front wheels.

The wheelbase size was different in the US and the UK versions, where the UK based cars had a larger wheelbase model when compared to its American counterpart. The transmission in the two cars was also different with the 4-speed transmission speed used in the UK model and a 3-speed manual transmission used in the US models. Not only this, the US based cars were equipped with a single dry-plate clutch.

Some of the salient features of the car are:

- It offers its customers a wide range of 44,000 paint colors

- Customers can specify the leather color of their choice

- The car is equipped with a power reserve dial, which indicates the amount of engine power left. The earlier cars used a tachometer instead of the new power reserve dial.

- Also, the car's cluster is unique in itself.

This Rolls Royce uses rear-hinged rear doors, which it refers to as coach doors. These doors are closed using the buttons mounted on the C-pillars operated through hydraulic motor. The car also has electronic doors in place which prevent them from any accidental opening while the car is moving. Any door left open accidentally will also reduce the speed of the car significantly.

The use of an automatic electronic retraction mechanism makes the car theft proof. Not only this, it also protects pedestrians in case of an accident. A button or an alarm fitted in the car enables it to be retracted. A sensor fitted in the car detects movement which will retract it if anybody tempers with it. The RR logos fitted on the hubs of the wheels always remain in the upright position even when the wheel is moving.

Similar to the Phantom II cars, the Phantom Drophead Coupe by Rolls-Royce is the latest luxury and convertible car in the series. This car was manufactured by Rolls-Royce in the year 2007. It was first showcased at the North American International Auto Show.
